Welcome from Mr. Campbell
Welcome to 5th and 6th grade Lit! I am so excited to share my love of reading with your children! They have had a very strong foundation with our F & F program, and now we will build on that with whole-group units based on "essential questions", some literature circles, and more and more personal choice as the students progress.
Reading Logs: Students will be expected to read 20 minutes for every school night and fill in their reading log sheet starting on Tues. Sept. 4. If there is a 4 day week, then they should read a total of 80 minutes, a 5 day week will be a total of 100 minutes, etc. The goal is for them to read daily, but if some days are much busier than others, they can make up reading time on the weekends as well. Their reading log will be their only assignment for literature. Their reading log sheet must be filled in completely. This will count as the practice portion of their literature grade. I will collect logs on Fridays and send home new ones.

Book talks will replace book reports and will begin second quarter for the 5th graders and later this quarter for the sixth graders. Each student will do one book talk per quarter. They can be completed in class, so this does not require any work outside of school unless they decide to do their by video.
Book Orders: Book orders will come home every month. There is no obligation to purchase books. If you choose to order books, you can do so online @ scholastic.com. Our class activation code is LGYDC. You can also send the order in to me with cash or a check made out to Scholastic Book Clubs.
